Ruud van Nistelrooy is expected to include young players Harry Amass, Jayce Fitzgerald, Jack Fletcher and Ethan Wheatley in Manchester United's matchday squad for this afternoon's game against Chelsea.

The quartet were pictured arriving at Old Trafford ahead of the clash with the Londoners and are expected to be on the bench for the second game in a row.

Midfielder Fitzgerald, 17, was named among the substitutes for the first time in midweek as United beat Leicester City at Old Trafford in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup and has a quarter-final game against Tottenham Hotspur next month.

Fitzgerald, who started the U18s' 6-0 win over Nottingham Forest four days earlier, was a likely candidate for inclusion in today's matchday squad after being left out of the U18s' 8-0 win over Nottingham Forest Leeds United were excluded yesterday at Thorp Arch.

Meanwhile, Amass and Fletcher both played for the under-21 side yesterday as they started in the 5-2 defeat to Sunderland. Both players were substituted at half-time.

Fletcher, who has yet to make his United first-team debut, scored a goal and provided an assist before being withdrawn at half-time. At halftime the Reds were down 3-2.

Wheatley, who came on as a half-time substitute in the aforementioned game against Sunderland, will be hoping to make his first Premier League appearance of the season sometime this afternoon, having secured a late cameo against Leicester in midweek. He replaced Joshua Zirkzee with just five minutes left.

With third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton likely to miss out, this suggests that all other players arriving at Old Trafford will be included in the matchday squad.

United squad: Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, Lisandro Martinez, Jonny Evans, Matthijs de Ligt, Victor Lindelof, Harry Amass, Jayce Fitzgerald, Jack Fletcher, Manuel Ugarte, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford , Amad, Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund and Ethan Wheatley.
