Tottenham 4-1 Aston Villa – Premier League result: Dominic Solanke scores for Spurs, while Brennan Johnson and James Maddison also score for the hosts

SOLANKE scores twice and prevails against Villa

Dominic Solanke scored a second-half brace as Tottenham Hotspur moved to within two points of the Premier League's top four with a 4-1 win over Aston Villa.

Ange Postecoglou had to defend himself against Morgan Rogers' opening first-half goal after the Villa man took advantage of a defensive error following a corner.

However, Spurs finally made their possession and attacking intent clear when Brennan Johnson equalized for the hosts four minutes into the second half.

Postecoglou made the controversial decision to take Heung-Min Son off with the score an hour ago.

However, Solanke scored twice in four minutes to put Spurs out of sight, and substitute James Maddison completed the 4-1 win with a superb free-kick at the death.

Postecoglou will be concerned about the injuries to Cristian Romero and Richarlison, who both came out of the game injured.

Unai Emery will have cause for reflection after his side were destroyed by Tottenham's attacking play in the second half as Villa suffered their first away defeat of the season.

Villa travel to Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday, while Spurs enter the Europa League with a trip to Galatasaray on Thursday
