UFC Edmonton hit the floor last night (Sat., Nov. 2, 2024) at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, with a do-or-die flyweight bout Brandon Moreno Loss Amir Albazi by unanimous decision (more on this here). In the co-main event Erin Blanchfield defeated Rose Namajunas – also by unanimous decision (summary here) – to secure their place behind it Manon Fiorot for the next division title fight.

Biggest winner: Brandon Moreno

“The Assassin Baby” secured a big win in the “Great White North,” dominating Albazi for five rounds to end his two-fight losing streak. Moreno seemed refreshed and on the right track throughout the night, taking on The Prince and failing. Moreno reminded everyone of the man who once ruled the division and proved he still has plenty of fuel in the tank and is a major threat to the 125-pound throne. It remains to be seen whether or not he'll get a shot at the title next, but one thing's for sure: Moreno is back in a big way and whoever stands in front of him had better do their best.

Runner-up: Erin Blanchfield

After losing the first two rounds to Namajunas, a former strawweight champion, Blanchfield turned things around in the remaining three rounds and secured a unanimous decision victory over “Thug Rose.” It was a solid comeback win after the defeat Manon Fiorot on their last trip. After her big win, “Cold Blooded” demanded a showdown against the former flyweight champion. Alexa Grasso. That's a good indication because if she can beat them, the title shot is next. Blanchfield gets the nod here because she overcame adversity, never gave up and turned things around in one of the biggest fights of her career.

Biggest loser: Caio Machado

Last night there were several fighters who suffered their third defeat in a row including Pedro Munhoz, Marc-André Barriault And Trevin Giles. But Machado gets the credit here for dropping a split decision Brendan Ribeirowhich dropped him to 0-3 in his first three fights with the promotion. He came out hot Contender Series with seven wins in a row, but it's like the saying goes: “Some people can hit home runs in the minors, but they can’t swing the bat in the majors.” And that appears to be the case with Machado, who could be on the rocks after starting his UFC career without a win in three attempts. And with UFC cutting a record number of fighters lately, Machado should be concerned.
