Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa: game time, live blog and how to watch online

A terrible defeat against cellar-dwellers Crystal Palace, followed by an impressive win against Premier League holders Manchester City in the League Cup.

It's hard to know what to expect from Tottenham Hotspur these days and Sunday's game against Aston Villa presents an interesting challenge.

However, calling Spurs inconsistent is probably an unfair claim. Spurs' home form has been excellent and they have secured eight wins in their last ten games. While you wouldn't exactly call Tottenham Hotspur's stadium a fortress, the atmosphere there has been developing throughout the season and Spurs have generally been excellent – even if the Premier League points table doesn't quite reflect that.

However, Aston Villa are a difficult opponent and the Lilywhites will be missing some key players. Although there is hope that captain Son Heung-min could return, a hamstring injury to Micky van de Ven means Spurs will at least partially play with a rotated defense, and Cristian Romero and Timo Werner both left the field in midweek what little things looked like. Villa, who have endured a somewhat turbulent season themselves, will be keen to prove a point against strong opposition and Spurs will need to ensure they make full use of Ange balls to ensure the points stay where they belong in addition.

Adjust thread rules

The match thread rules are the same as always. All visitors who come here for the first time are warmly welcome! We're glad you're here! Wipe your feet, mind the gap, and be sure to check out the other pages of this excellent site. However, while you're here, we have a few rules and regulations:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They are evil and get us into trouble. Violators will be warned or banned.
  • We have rules against “relentless negativity.” Nobody likes a negative Nancy. Don't be knee-jerk and post outlandish or hurtful things just because you're frustrated.
  • In this sense, direct insults to players or match officials are not permitted. It's okay to say “Wow, that was a really bad call,” but it's NOT okay to excessively berate said officer over a call you didn't like.
  • Treat other people in the match thread the way you would want someone else to treat your grandmother. Be nice. This is a community of fans, not an unmoderated message board.
  • NO SPIDERS!
  • Although we don't have a policy against profanity, please try to keep the naughty words at bay. In addition, statements that are sexist, racist, transphobic or homophobic in nature will be immediately deleted and you will be blocked immediately. This is an open, supportive community.

Have fun and COYS!
