Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live – where she played a “mirror image” of herself and joked about her own shrieking laughter in a final media appearance before Tuesday's election.

Harris faced her impersonator Maya Rudolph in the show's cold open.

The skit began with a CNN newscast in which James Austin Johnson showed former President Donald Trump at a rally wearing the orange garbage man vest he wore to a campaign rally last week.

The open cut features Maya Rudolph, Andy Samberg and Jim Gaffigan as Harris, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and Harris' running mate, Gov. Tim Walz.

Dana Carvey also appeared as President Joe Biden.

Rudolph's Harris clears the room saying she needs a moment to herself.

“I wish I could talk to someone in my situation,” Rudolph said to himself in the empty room.

Then the real Kamala Harris appears in the dressing room mirror.

“You and me both, sister!” Harris said, grinning from ear to ear after thirty seconds of applause from the live audience.

Harris continued, “I'm here to remind you that you have this because you can do something your opponent can't do: you can open doors.”

As Rudolph let out a loud, familiar Kamala cackle, the contestant said, “I don't really laugh like that, do I?”

The couple had fun with the veep's name. Harris said she would end the “drama” of politics with her election, and the two said in unison: “Keep Kamala and wear Onala.”

“I will vote for us,” says Rudolph.

“Any chance you're registered in Pennsylvania?” Harris quipped.

The Veep also joined in the typical “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!”

Harris received a less than warm welcome as she left the SNL studios at Rockefeller Center as anti-Israel protesters chanted “Murderer, murderer, murderer!” as their motorcade drove past.

Trump's campaign excoriated Harris for appearing on the show.

“Kamala Harris has nothing of substance to offer the American people, so she lives out her twisted fantasy playing on Saturday Night Leftists with her elite friends while her campaign fades into obscurity. Over the past four years, Kamala's destructive policies have resulted in untold misery and pain for all Americans. She broke it, and President Trump will fix it,” spokesman Steven Cheung told Fox News.

The politics continued on the show in a later skit in which host John Mulaney played a clueless liberal on a game show that featured a tweet of mine from 2016 in which I talked about how the election was the end of the World would mean if Hillary Clinton did I won't win.

Then he was offered a huge salary if he could identify Clinton's running mate, and the real Senator Tim Kaine appeared – and Mulaney's character had no idea who he was.

“You voted for me four years ago,” Kaine says incredulously.

Kamala Harris had a busy schedule on Saturday.

Harris was in Atlanta, Georgia, and Charlotte, North Carolina, earlier in the day – conducting a last-minute campaign in the Peach State in the final 60 hours before the election.

SNL has a history of inviting presidents and presidential candidates.

Former Vice President Al Gore, the late Senator John McCain and Trump each hosted episodes of the historic show. Trump hosted the show in 2004 and 2015 in the run-up to the presidential election.

Former Presidents Gerald Ford and Barack Obama both appeared on the show during their time in office. Obama in 2018 and Ford in an episode of the second season of the 50-year-old series in 1976.

The late President George HW Bush appeared on the show in 1994 after his term in office.

Hillary Clinton also appeared in an episode in 2015 the month before the election.
