The Bayern murderer: Bo Svensson back in Munich?

Bayern Munich celebrated a resounding 4-0 away win over Mainz 05 in the DFB Cup this week, although a returning nemesis was not on the sidelines this time: head coach Bo Svensson, who beat Bayern three times during his tenure there from 2021-23 .

This weekend, however, Svensson is back again, as the former Mainz coach has now taken over the coaching role at Union Berlin, who are traveling to Munich for the Bundesliga game next Saturday.

How about that Midas touch when it comes to Bayern, Bo?

“It takes a mix of many things,” Svensson explained in the game preview comments captured by Bild (via @iMiaSanMia). “It was always like that when we beat Bayern. You need the right gameplay, luck in a few situations and you have to have a great day yourself. Some things are in your own hands, others are not. Against an opponent with so much quality, a lot has to go right to get a result.

“Bayern has brutal quality. The tactical development is also impressive. Every player can make the difference. We have to reach our highest level.”

It's nice to see a nod to the work of first-year Bayern coach Vincent Kompany, whose tactics have come under scrutiny since a recent lull that culminated in a 4-1 defeat at FC Barcelona in the Champions League stands.

Will Bayern be able to maintain their dominance in the Bundesliga against Union or does Svensson have another giant trick up his sleeve?
