Paris Masters: Alexander Zverev beats Stefanos Tsitsipas and reaches the semi-finals

Alexander Zverev faces Holger Rune in the semi-finals of the Paris Masters after defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets.

German world number three Zverev defeated Greek number 10 Tsitsipas 7-5, 6-4 on Friday.

This victory made him only the third active player to reach 20 ATP Masters 1,000 semifinals, alongside Novak Djokovic (78) and Rafael Nadal (76).

The semi-final opponent Rune defeated the number nine seeded Australian Alex de Minaur 6:4, 4:6, 7:5.

Zverev, 27, is aiming for his seventh career Masters 1,000 title and second of the season after his triumph in Rome, while the defeat ended Tsitsipas' hopes of qualifying for the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin.

Zverev next faces former Paris champion Rune, the 21-year-old Dane who won the 2022 tournament by defeating Djokovic in the final.

When meeting Zverev for a place in the 2024 final, Rune, the world number 13, said: “He is one of the best players this year, so I have to be very well prepared and recover physically and build the level of this game.”

France's 15th seed Ugo Humbert will face Russia's Karen Khachanov in the other semi-final on Saturday after both players advanced with straight-set victories.

Humbert, who defeated world number two Carlos Alcaraz in the preliminary round, defeated Australian Jordan Thompson 6:2, 7:6 (7:4).

Meanwhile, Khachanov beat eighth seed Bulgarian and 2023 runner-up Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-3.
