Brooklyn Nets vs. Chicago Bulls Preview: The Nets begin a three-game homestand

Well, I will! The Brooklyn Nets continue to surprise people across the NBA and put together some top-notch performances. They kept the party going on Wednesday night with an impressive road win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

Tonight's opponent wants to stay in postseason contention. The Chicago Bulls are who they are, but they were coming off a win against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night.

Where can you watch the game?

YES network on TV. WFAN on the radio. Tip after 7:30 p.m.

Injuries

No Bojan Bogdanovic or Day'Ron Sharpe. Trenton Watford is likely to be suffering from a left hamstring strain. Darqi WhithhwS is with the Long Island Nets. The Nets agreed to extend him for another year this week. That means Whitehead will receive $3.3 million. A good indicator that Brooklyn believes it will be valuable to them once they're healthy.

Lonzo Ball is out with a sprained right wrist. It's questionable whether Zach Lavine is suffering from a left acromioclavicular sprain.

The game

So the Bulls find themselves in a precarious position. They're not good enough to be a real playoff contender. At the same time, they are not bad enough to get a top lottery pick. And to make matters even more complicated, the Bulls' front office has failed to endear itself to fans over the years. Our friends at Blog a bull have more:

“I used to worry that the Bulls would win too much if they tricked their stupid front office into making more win-now moves. This turned out to be true, although in fact it manifested itself in transaction paralysis and the bar for success was lower than even my worst fears.

If they win so much this year that they lose their election, that would be bad. If they lose a lot of games and AKME gets a pick that extends their reign of terror, is that a bad thing?

But then you have to assume that they probably stayed there for years because the owners don’t care enough to know that they don’t know what they’re doing.”

Eek.

The guard matchup should be fun. Dennis Schroder is perhaps playing the best basketball of his NBA career and has gotten the Nets off to a great start. The three-point shooting is amazing, but perhaps most importantly, he gets to the rim and finishes there

When things go downhill, good things happen! For Jordi Fernandez and the Nets, the presence of a leader like Schröder helps keep things organized and gives them a fighting chance every night. The Nets have been a lot of fun so far, and that's all you can ask for right now. If they keep this up, the winter may not last as long as everyone expects.

Josh Giddey is in a new place and it looks like he has found himself. His three-point shooting was out of this world to start the year and he gets everyone moving. It's still incredibly early and the first month and season stats are very loud, but if Giddey can be anywhere near positive on offense, it will be a godsend for the Bulls.

The Bulls definitely have reason to be excited going forward. The backcourt duo of Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu is solid and a good building block for a possible future in Chicago. You're being compared to Cam Thomas, Brooklyn's future hope. A lot has been put on CT's shoulders, but he has met the moment and played well early in the season. Jordi Fernandez publicly advocated for Thomas to draw more fouls, and it paid off with a record 11 free throw attempts to start the season. Being able to get to the line at high speed will keep your offense sharp and allow you to get to the basket even more aggressively. Thomas is a great finisher at the rim and the Bulls' interior defense isn't the best in the world, so we could be in for a show tonight.

Player to Watch: Nikola Vucevic

Vucevic has been playing in the NBA for 14 seasons and it feels like he's been making life miserable for the Nets since he walked in the front door. These days, he's trying to figure out where he fits on a Bulls team that's trying to find its identity. He still has a soft touch around the rim and assuming the Bulls change course by February, Vuc could help a team. In the meantime, the Nets will try to stay out of foul trouble and keep Vucevic off the sidelines.

The Nets will have Nic Claxton back, so we'll see the Nets have their full allotment of centers for the evening. Ben Simmons started aggressively on Wednesday, but foul trouble quickly put paid to that. When Simmons is out there, the Nets need him to play with purpose and try to attack as often as possible. It gives him confidence and makes him someone that defenses need to pay some attention to. As Clax continues to recover from his hamstring injury in training camp, we will see his minutes increase. The Nets have a matchup coming up, but it's a B2B home game so we'll see how the team handles things for the big guy.
