The celebration known as Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, honors family, community and loved ones who have died.

A Minnesota Latino-run nonprofit is hosting its annual recognition of the day Saturday at an event at the Midtown Global Market.

In collaboration with Midtown Global Market, nonprofit organization CLUES will host the Nov. 2 event, which will include art workshops, a community altar, traditional dances and more.

Día de los Muertos begins on November 1st and lasts until November 2nd.

Carla Manzoni is director of arts and cultural engagement at CLUES and says that in Mexico and some parts of Latin America, Día de los Muertos marks the day when deceased loved ones visit the living.

“We welcome this beautiful celebration that brings us together and really helps us preserve the memories of our loved ones,” Manzoni said.

She said the celebration honors family, community and deceased loved ones and integrates Indigenous and Catholic traditions.

“I remember my grandma going to her loved ones' graves, cleaning and bringing flowers and really trying to remember the family members who are no longer with us,” Manzoni said.

The event takes place from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m
