Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are tied in two battleground states, with Trump ahead in one of three new polls released Thursday by Echelon Insights.

The polls show the candidates tied in Michigan and Wisconsin, while Trump is ahead in Pennsylvania. The three states are part of the “Blue Wall,” a collection of industrial states in the Midwest that have traditionally been part of Democratic victories but played a crucial role in Trump's 2016 victory.

In the 2024 election, the three states will have 44 electoral votes.

Each poll sampled 600 likely voters in the state from October 27 to 30, with 80% of respondents surveyed via text-to-web and 20% of respondents surveyed via a landline call.

The race remains close as campaigns still have five days to persuade voters to make a decision. Both Harris and Trump are expected to speak in Nevada, one of seven states that could influence the election.

Here's what you need to know about Echelon Insights' latest surveys.

Trump leads Harris in Pennsylvania

Echelon found that Trump was ahead of Harris by 6% in the head-to-head matchup they surveyed and by 5% when third parties were included.

The survey found that 92% of respondents were at least very motivated to vote and that 32% of respondents had already voted.

Fifty-eight percent of respondents said they disapproved of President Joe Biden's time in office, while 49 percent disapproved of Trump's time in office.

The survey had a margin of error of ±4.5%.

Harris and Trump were tied in Michigan

The pollster found that Harris and Trump are at 48% in Michigan when compared head-to-head and 47% when third parties are included.

The survey found that 93% of respondents were at least very motivated to vote and that 49% of respondents had already voted.

A majority of respondents said they disapproved of both Biden's and Trump's terms: 56% disapproved of Biden's term and 50% disapproved of Trump's term.

The survey had a margin of error of ±4.4%.

Harris and Trump were tied in Wisconsin

The latest poll released by Echelon found that Harris and Trump are also tied in Wisconsin at 49% head-to-head and 48% when third parties are included.

The survey found that 95% of respondents were at least very motivated to vote and that 44% of respondents had already voted.

Respondents in Wisconsin disapproved of both Biden and Trump's time in office, with 54% and 51% of respondents, respectively, expressing disapproval.

The survey had a margin of error of ±4.5%.

What you should consider when taking surveys

The margin of error describes how accurately we can assume that the survey results are representative of the entire population.

If a candidate's lead is “within” the margin of error, it is considered a “statistical tie,” according to the Pew Research Center.

Pew also found that the majority of pollsters have changed their methods since the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, which significantly underestimated Trump's performance.
