You might think that soccer players of all levels would know by now not to drop the ball before crossing the goal line.

DeSean Jackson made it to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2008 and it immediately became a blooper that played over and over again. Yet players still do it.

New York Jets rookie Malachi Corley had to feel bad about it Thursday night. For his second career NFL touchdown, he completed an end-around and ran 18 yards against the Houston Texans in what should have been his first career touchdown. This is an important moment in life. But Corley dropped the ball before it crossed the goal line.

A review showed that Corley released the ball before scoring, but the play had to be brought to a conclusion as it was live. If the Jets had made it, it would have been a touchdown. But the ball rolled slowly out of the back of the end zone. The Texans took over with a touchback.

Corley made a mistake and he will have to live with it for a long time. Instead of the third-round draft pick celebrating a big accomplishment, he stood on the sideline with angry coaches and teammates while viewers took to social media to talk about what a stupid mistake the rookie had made. It's a mistake you'll see here and there, although it's inexcusable at virtually any time, especially after Jackson's infamous mistake 16 years ago.

Maybe one day Corley could laugh about it. Thursday was not that day.
