A Chicago hospital's neonatal intensive care unit just held its Halloween costume contest, and the winners are in – and they're incredibly cute!

Jaylin Correa, wearing a firefighter costume entirely handmade by his great-grandmother, won the top prize at Advocate Children's Hospital's annual NICU competition. Stevan Davis, who wore a Harry Potter-inspired costume, took second place.

“I feel like the hard work was worth it and it’s something unforgettable,” Jaylin’s mother, Julianna Correa, tells PEOPLE.

Fellow mom Senonca Davis added, “It helped take my mind off everything Sevan was going through.”

Advocate's NICU hosts the contest each year, where the public can vote for their favorite costume on the hospital's Facebook page.

Julianna, 20, tells PEOPLE that her grandmother crocheted little Jaylin's costume after the family saw a similar costume on Amazon but wasn't sure if it would arrive in time.

“It was a big distraction from his stay in the NICU and everything that was going on there,” the new mother says. “So overall (the support) is just appreciated.”

Meanwhile, Senoca combined her love of photographing her son with her passion for Harry Potter and used a golden snitch from a box of socks she bought, a homemade broomstick, a cape and a pointy hat to give her son the role .

Senoca, 40, tells PEOPLE that the contest brought out her competitive side — but she was shocked at how many votes her son received, especially since she's not an avid Facebook user herself.

The competition has also helped Senoca connect with other parents through social media, and the new mom says those stories have given her “something to look forward to”: seeing Sevan graduate from the NICU .

“I appreciate everyone,” Senoca tells PEOPLE. “Everyone has been so kind and friendly and I appreciate that because at a certain point in time you really need positivity.”
