CHICAGO (WLS) – After a few days of unseasonably warm temperatures, Chicago area residents can expect a massive cold on Thursday as families prepare for Halloween trick-or-treating.

Parts of the area are also threatened with isolated severe storms in the early hours of Thursday morning.

While showers will move away in the morning before it's time for trick-or-treating, a cold front is expected to arrive later in the day.

Temperatures will be in the 60s by 1 p.m. before falling into the 40s after sunset, Mowry said.

A wind advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service said. Wind gusts could reach up to 50 miles per hour, Mowry said.

People in the Chicago area enjoyed the warm weather, which felt like a small revival of summer.

From the driving ranges to the bike paths, ABC7 saw people trying to make the most of this unusual warmth on Wednesday.

It was a hat-free, glove-free day in Burnham Harbor for Megan Thomas as she enjoyed a bike ride along Chicago's lakefront.

“We celebrate Halloween, and a few years ago it snowed and I ride my bike in shorts, so I can't complain,” Thomas said.

For a second day, fall felt more like a summer day in the city. Tuesday's high of 82 broke a record.

“I can’t complain,” golfer John Anderson said. “I like it like this, not too hot, cool.” I like the weather like this. I can deal with this any day.

The pleasant weather attracted many golfers to the Jackson Park Golf Range.

“We’re stealing days right now in October and November,” golfer Richard Tulloch said. “We'll take them all while we can…we'll watch the leaves, tell stories and enjoy hitting balls.”

Despite the mild temperatures, the time has come again when all boats, except those with late departure permits, must leave Chicago ports by October 31st.

Tom Houston and his crew have six other boats dry docked at their 134th and Indiana Marine Center.

“It's usually a lot colder, but the winds are just crazy, so we can't do much more today,” Houston said. “This one was heavy enough to get on the trailer.”

While most enjoyed the unseasonably warm weather and knew it couldn't last, Adam Bilter decided to make the most of it on a friend's boat on the lake while waiting for fall and then winter finally arrived.

“I’ve already got the sweaters and gloves out and I’m ready to go,” Bilter said. “I'm ready.”
