WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – As we approach the final official month of hurricane season, conditions in the Caribbean remain favorable for tropical development.

The National Hurricane Center on Wednesday alerted the central and western Caribbean to possible developments over the weekend or even next week. The chance of development has increased to 50% in the next seven days.

“The expectation is that some of these bubbles here, some activity north of Panama, could become a disruption at some point. Maybe something stronger. But there are major disagreements between all forecast models,” said Jennifer Correa, meteorologist for WPTV First Alert Weather.

Until something forms, we don't know if it will have a potential impact on South Florida or the state in general.

Additionally, an area of unsettled weather bringing showers and cloud cover to parts of the Greater Antilles, including Puerto Rico, has not yet been highlighted by the NHC, but Correa said it is something to keep an eye on.

“It could move west and perhaps organize further. Or at least some of the resulting moisture will pass over us sometime early next week,” Correa said.
