Bernie Sanders demonstrates with the union in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – With just nine days until Election Day, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders rallied in Harrisburg on Sunday for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

The rally took place at Local Union 520, where dozens of union members were in attendance.

Sanders encouraged the crowd to elect Harris as the next president, saying she would strengthen unions and lower costs for Pennsylvanians.

“Kamala Harris understands the importance of unions and wants to strengthen the union movement in America by passing legislation to prevent companies from illegally denying workers the right to organize,” said Sanders (I-Vt.). “That is not Trump’s position. He does not support this legislation. So I think the issues are pretty clear. If you are working, I think Kamala is the right candidate. If you’re a billionaire, I think it’s Trump.”

“I think both candidates have figured out what they think is attractive to working people,” said Christopher Nicholas, a Republican political analyst. “It's a group in Pennsylvania that's really winnable, but it's no longer monolithically Democratic.”

Political differences aside, Sanders and Nicholas agree it will be a close election.

“Neither candidate was able to gain any advantage here,” Nicholas added. “Every poll we see. The candidates are not just on par in the truest sense of the word. Therefore, it is difficult for us forecasters and analysts to get a clear idea of what will happen.”
