Guys, here we are again. The Thunder and Spurs are about to play their first game against each other this NBA season.

That means we'll see Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama. This is basically two basketball kaiju colliding. One is 7-foot-4 and the other is 7-foot-1, and both do everything guards can do — sometimes even better. It's wild.

The comparisons will always be there. They are both second-year big men, although Holmgren was drafted a year earlier. Both play the same position. They are both attending the same conference. Their playing styles are similar.

But should we call their relationship a rivalry? It's fair to call it that. But I'm not so sure if it's ready yet.

Let's take a look at their on-court relationship so far.

Wait, is this actually a rivalry?

Well, it's competitive. Maybe it's fair to call it a rivalry. But there is no animosity between the two.

Holmgren was asked about his relationship with Wemby on Paul George's 'Playoff P' podcast over the summer. He quickly clarified that while the two were competitive, there was no dispute between the two.

That competitive energy between them hasn't gone away.

What were their encounters like?

COMPETITIVE. In capital letters. It's fun to watch the games. Both do things we've never seen anyone do on an NBA court.

Still, mountains moved when we saw Wemby block Chet's jumper.

Chet and the Thunder walked away with two wins in their three meetings. But usually Wembanyama walked away with a highlight or two that made you say, “Wow. I can’t wait to see more of this in the next 10 years.”

So look. Maybe this is no longer a rivalry. But the more often these guys see each other, the closer this duel becomes.

Holmgren told reporters last year: “I plan to play for a long time and I'm sure he does too, so there will be no choice but to go back and forth.”

Let's hope that happens.
