Ghosts of the predicted past

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – As Halloween approaches, let's dust off the climatology books and look at some spooky data from years past.

Halloween has brought with it an incredibly stark contrast of weather conditions, with some giving you goosebumps and others causing sweaty temperatures of up to 30°C. This Halloween is expected to be on the warmer side of average, likely reaching the 80s before the sun sets.

The last eight Halloween festivals alone have provided very different weather conditions. From a cool 36°C night in 2019 to an eerily warm 84°C afternoon in 2016, the rest of the years were somewhere in between. Additionally, there have been a handful of rainy Halloweens recently, with a whopping 1.61 inches falling in 2018.

This year's Halloween could also see some rain. A cold front set to stall north of the Brazos Valley on Thursday will provide a friendly boost to the abundant moisture ahead. This increases the chance of rain Wednesday through the weekend, including right on Halloween. While umbrellas and raincoats aren't the best accessories for Halloween, ghouls and goblins might want to use them when they're looking for treats!
