Rangers' Will Venable is reportedly a finalist for the White Sox, Marlins managerial position

Texas Rangers assistant coach Will Venable has drawn interest from other MLB teams as a potential manager for the second straight season following the offseason.

Some teams are reportedly taking an even deeper look this fall.

Venable is a finalist for open managerial positions for both the Chicago White Sox and Miami Marlins, MLB Network insider Jon Heyman said. Venable interviewed in Miami on Monday.

According to White Sox reporter Chuck Garfien, Chicago's managerial search has been narrowed down to four names: Venable, interim manager Grady Sizemore, former Angels manager Phil Nevin and Guardians assistant Craig Albernaz.

The White Sox are coming off a terrible season in which they finished 41-121, statistically the fifth-worst final record of the modern baseball era. They fired manager Pedro Grifol in August, after which Sizemore was promoted to the interim position. The Marlins folded after a 62-100 season, parting ways with manager Skip Schumaker as well as two assistant GMs, their director of international scouting and others.

Venable has been with Rangers since November 2022, when he was signed as associate manager under Bruce Bochy. Venable played nine major league seasons as an outfielder from 2008 to 2016, including 37 games for the Rangers in 2015.

Donnie Ecker, the Rangers assistant assistant and bench coach, interviewed for the White Sox gig last week but is no longer considered a candidate for the position.
