Anthony Volpe leads World Series breakout as Yankees keep season alive

One down, three to go.

The Yankees kept their season alive and avoided a World Series victory by rolling past the Dodgers for an 11-4 victory in Game 4 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium.

The game turned in the third inning when Anthony Volpe hit a two-out grand slam off Daniel Hudson to give the Yankees a 5-2 lead.

It was the first time the Yankees had a series lead since Freddie Freeman's 10th-inning grand slam in Game 1.

Freeman gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead for the second straight game in the first inning by striking out Luis Gil for two runs.

But this time the Yankees fought back and Volpe scored their first run on a groundout by Alex Verdugo in the second inning.

Volpe was still in third place after shockingly failing to score a second goal on an Austin Wells brace.

Wells, back in the lineup after being benched in Game 3, provided a crucial Yankees insurance run with a long home run to right in the sixth after the Dodgers had cut the lead to 5-4.

The Yankees then broke through in the eighth when Gleyber delivered the decisive blow to Torres' three-run home run.

The eighth-inning outburst allowed the Yankees to avoid bringing in closer Luke Weaver in the ninth inning after he had already pitched 1 1/3 innings — and likely kept him available for Game 5 on Wednesday night.

It's the first step in a long road for the Yankees, who lost the first three games of the World Series.

Game 5 is Wednesday night, Gerrit Cole starts for the Yankees against Jack Flaherty.
