How to watch Donald Trump's rally in Pennsylvania tonight as planned protests

Former President Donald Trump's next rally will see him visit Allentown, Pennsylvania, a city with a large Puerto Rican community, just days after his last rally was condemned for racist jokes about Puerto Rico.

Trump's final campaign rally, where the Republican candidate took the stage in New York City, was criticized by Democrats and conservatives alike over comedian Tony Hinchcliffe's jokes, which called Puerto Rico “a floating island of trash.”

With only a few days left in the election campaign, the Trump campaign quickly distanced itself from the comments. A spokesman said: “This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.”

However, there has already been significant backlash from the Puerto Rican community and Republicans unhappy with the remarks; Puerto Rico Republican Party Chairman Angel Cintrón even threatened to withhold his support for Trump unless a personal apology was made.

As Trump heads to Pennsylvania, the Puerto Rican community in the critical swing state, numbering about half a million people, has mobilized to organize protests at his rally.

According to Politico, local leaders in Allentown, a city with a predominantly Latino population, are encouraging friends and family to protest the event, which was originally planned as part of Trump's closing arguments in the final days of the campaign.

Additionally, a nonpartisan Puerto Rican advocacy group wrote a letter Monday urging its members to vote against Trump in November.

Where is today's event?

Today's rally is taking place in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The city is predominantly Latin American and has a large Puerto Rican population of around 34,000 inhabitants.

Trump was scheduled to appear there before his final rally in New York when Hinchcliffe made his comments about Puerto Rico. In response, many Latino activists have mobilized the community against Trump, meaning there could be protests at the rally today.

What time does the event take place?

Doors at the venue open at 3 p.m. EST, with Trump scheduled to appear at 7 p.m., according to his campaign website.

Where will the event be broadcast?

The event will be livestreamed from Donald Trump's official YouTube account, which has broadcast all of his rallies to date.

Why is this event important?

This event comes on the heels of the Trump campaign's backlash over comments against Puerto Rico and the Latino community on Sunday. As a result, Trump will face greater scrutiny and the event will be closely watched to see if he might respond to Hinchcliffe's comments.

Additionally, Pennsylvania is a critical swing state with 19 votes in the Electoral College. With just a few tens of thousands of votes deciding the 2020 election in this state, the backlash from a community that counts half a million voters in Pennsylvania alone could make the difference between victory and defeat on election night.

This rally is one of Trump's only chances to adequately deal with the backlash against his campaign.
