Jennifer Aniston shares emotional throwback photos on the first anniversary of Matthew Perry's death

Jennifer Aniston remembers her boyfriend Matthew Perry on the first anniversary of his sudden death.

On Monday, October 18, Aniston, 55, shared an Instagram post in Perry's honor with the caption, “1 year ❤️‍🩹” and tagged the Matthew Perry Foundation, which the late actor's family founded in his honor, to help others struggling with addiction.

Aniston's post included a black-and-white shot of the former co-stars from their early days Friendsa shot of the actor kissing her on the forehead during a scene at the iconic Central Perk coffeehouse, and a solo shot of Perry looking happy and healthy. She also included a group shot of the entire cast — Aniston, Perry, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer — hugging each other before taping the final episode.

Perry was 54 when he died of apparent drowning at his L.A. home last year, which was later determined to be the result of the acute effects of ketamine, according to an autopsy report obtained by PEOPLE two months later.

“We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but for now we will take a moment to grieve and process this incredible loss,” the statement said.

“We loved him very much. He was such a part of our DNA. We were always the six of us. This was a chosen family that forever changed the course of who we were and what our path would be,” she wrote Die Friends Binding the cast.

Aniston also shared a text message he recently sent her “out of nowhere one day” that “says it all.” He had sent her a black and white photo of them reading a script with Aniston laughing, and he wrote: “Making you laugh just made my day. It made my day :)”

“Matty, I love you so much and I know that you are now completely at peace and no longer in pain. I talk to you every day…sometimes I can almost hear you saying, 'Could you be any crazier?' Rest, little brother. You always made my day…”

Since the actor's family launched the Matthew Perry Foundation in his honor just weeks after his death, Aniston and her castmates have been vocal in their support of their efforts.

Last year on Giving Tuesday, she posted about the foundation on her Instagram Stories and asked her followers, “Please join Matty's family and me in supporting his foundation that supports addicts 🤍.”

“He would have been grateful for the love 🥰,” she said.
