The “Wonka” actor showed up in New York's Washington Square Park on Sunday, where hundreds of slim, curly-haired people gathered for the look-a-like costume contest, according to social media posts. Some lookalikes dressed up as the actor's Willy Wonka or his “Dune” character Paul Atreides, while others opted for his casual, everyday New York style.

In a video obtained by USA TODAY, a Chalamet, who has noticeably shorter hair than the others and is wearing a black sweater and baseball cap, lunges toward a photo being taken, with the crowd audibly starting to shout at the real actor recognize.

YouTuber Anthony Po organized the event, which resulted in a $500 fine from New York police, according to the Associated Press.

In an email, the NYPD confirmed it responded to an “unscheduled demonstration” in Washington Square Park and said four people were arrested and later released with a citation. The NYPD did not specify what charges the people were arrested on. A video obtained by The Cut shows police handcuffing a Chalamet lookalike.
