There were no major surprises in Week 9 of the college football season, just shaky performances.

Ohio State and Texas both survived sloppy quarterback play and won games against Nebraska and Texas, respectively. Kansas State narrowly defeated Kansas and SMU earned a win over Duke.

The weekend performances brought the curtain down in October. The next four weeks will have a huge impact on how the College Football Playoff could turn out.

For now, here are the winners and losers from last week.

Texas A&M: How about these Aggies? After a fierce comeback against LSU on Saturday night, Texas A&M is now atop the SEC standings thanks to a strong defense and quarterback Marcel Reed. They are the only undefeated SEC team headed to the College Football Playoff. This was a huge win for head coach Mike Elko, who is in his first year at the helm in College Station. If they can keep this up, the match against Texas after Thanksgiving will be amazing.

Colorado: Deion Sanders told us he was going to turn the Colorado program around, and he has done just that in his second season as head coach. The Buffaloes are 6-2, bowl eligible and still in the hunt for the Big 12 Championship. Travis Hunter continues to deliver Heisman Trophy-worthy performances while Shedeur Sanders continues to impress in the passing game. The Buffs could win, which I don't know is what we thought after the loss to Nebraska last month.

Boise State: The Broncos continue their offense with running back Ashton Jeanty, and it's paying off. A big win over UNLV on Friday night keeps them in the conversation for the overall College Football Playoff bid, and it doesn't look like they'll be slowing down any time soon. Boise State will be a problem if they make the playoffs, and they are getting closer and closer to that chance.

Oregon: The Ducks put the exclamation point on a big win in the Big Ten Conference and remained undefeated. Dillon Gabriel moved into second place in FBS passing touchdowns after throwing three throws in a 38-9 win over Illinois. He also had 291 passing yards. Oregon is pulling away from some of the top teams in the conference.

Miami: It's safe to say that hurricanes are dominating Florida. Miami defeated Florida State 36-14 in another statement game from one of the best teams in the country. Cam Ward improved his Heisman rating with 208 passing yards. The Hurricanes have already picked up wins against Florida, Florida A&M and South Florida this season and don't have another ranked opponent on the schedule.

Brendan Sullivan of Iowa: For the Hawkeyes, it was next man up, and perhaps they discovered their new offensive formula. After Sullivan replaced Cade McNamara, Iowa went on a 37-0 run over the next two quarters.

Ohio State: Yes, the Buckeyes got a win, but it wasn't the prettiest as Nebraska came up just short in a 21-17 finish. This came after the Buckeyes lost to Oregon and another highly ranked team is on the road next week in the Penn State Nittany Lions. The squad is undoubtedly as talented as can be, but Ryan Day's squad needs to become more polished after not looking like the usual well-oiled machine they are.

Kentucky: The Wildcats have been windless at home in the SEC this season, losing their third straight game this time to Auburn. I have no idea what's going on in Lexington right now, but this team appears to be on the decline under head coach Mark Stoops, who may want to look for a way out after this season. Kentucky is now 2-11 in its last 13 SEC home games, and the problems continue to add up.

LSU: The Tigers were ranked 8th going into their game against Texas A&M, but suffered a big loss at the hands of Marcel Reed and the Aggies. Their second loss of the season dropped them to No. 16 in the nation. The loss to USC continues to not look good on their resume.
