1. The offense has major problems

It's unbelievable that a team with Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall has so much trouble moving the football and scoring. The truth is that Rodgers wasn't sharp. He missed several open receivers in Sunday's 25-22 loss to New England. Rodgers probably should have been picked up at least once.

It's also alarming that the Jets are struggling to make the playoffs. They called three timeouts in the first quarter. Part of it is Rodgers seeing the defense and realizing they need to make a change. However, this may not happen very often. Additionally, Rodgers' decision to move the play on the two-point conversion with 2:57 left because he didn't like the decision against the look pushed the Jets back five yards. Of course they are not converted. The Jets should have used a timeout here.

“From an operational standpoint, we have to get better,” interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said. “Overall, that’s every single player, every single coach, that’s Aaron. We all are.”

2. The Jets need a new kicker

Greg Zuerlein is struggling and his time as a Jet may be up. After missing three field goals all of last season, he has already missed six and one extra point this season. He hit a 44-yard field goal that would have given the Jets a 19-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Zuerlein also sent an extra point sailing left in the first half. In two previous games this season, he missed a potentially game-winning kick against Denver. The Jets lost 10-9. He scored two goals against the Bills in a 23-20 loss.

No, it's not all up to Zürlein. But the Jets have lost four games by less than a touchdown. Every point counts. The Jets have remained loyal to Zuerlein and Ulbrich said he has no regrets. But he said they would have to “take a close look at everything” this week. Austin Seibert, whom the Jets cut before the season, came into Sunday's game making 19 of 20 field goals for Washington.

3. It was a mistake to fire Robert Saleh

The Jets shouldn't have gotten rid of Saleh when they did. He made some mistakes. They could have lost the three games they have played since his dismissal anyway, but ownership weakened the entire coaching staff when they got rid of Saleh. They should have waited until the end of the year. It was done to create “a spark,” as Woody Johnson said. That is not the case.

You put Ulbrich in a difficult situation. To be fair to him, he has never been a head coach before. There's so much more on his plate than ever before. Ulbrich's world, and the world of every coach on the defensive side of the game, was turned upside down. The defense is certainly not the same. The Steelers scored a season-high in points last week. The Patriots did the same on Sunday. Ulbrich wouldn't rule out giving up defensive duties. “I’ll take a close look at everything,” he said. “If that’s one of the things that can help us, it will definitely be on the table.”
