Tom Hanks on reuniting on screen with his 'Forrest Gump' co-star Robin Wright

Tom Hanks says it was “so easy” to reconnect with Robin Wright on the set of her new film Here.

Hanks opened up about how he and Wright immediately hit it off when they got back together HereYears after the shooting Forrest Gumpin which the couple played childhood friends who get married at the end of the film.

For Hanks, the film's themes — including the passage of time and the way families are connected across generations — rang true.

“I think that, strangely enough, the theme of the first part Forrest Gumpwas how it was done, that's what it was all about for us had went through it, right? Because there was so much,” Hanks said at Friday’s premiere. “There was Vietnam and the '60s and '70s, we had arrived here.” Look what we went through.

“(Here) is about what we see go through. It almost eliminates the past tense. What do we have to go through to get here? There are people who lived in this place hundreds of years ago and did not know that they lived in the past. They didn't have our perspective on who they are and what they've been through.

“They were just dealing with the absolute most modern time, the most modern technology, the most current version of what was going on,” the actor added. “They didn’t know they would be obsolete by 2024. None of us know that.”

Here hits theaters November 1st.
