The most exciting Derby d'Italia in history took place at the San Siro when Inter took a 4-2 lead, only to be clawed back to 4-4 by a brace from Kenan Yildiz.

The Nerazzurri's injury crisis worsened in midweek with the loss of Carlos Augusto, who was on the treatment table along with Hakan Calhanoglu, Francesco Acerbi and Tajon Buchanan, so Piotr Zielinski was selected as playmaker. Juve lost against VfB Stuttgart during the week as Douglas Luiz was added to the absentee list along with Teun Koopmeiners, Nico Gonzalez, Gleison Bremer and Arek Milik. However, Francisco Conceicao returned from suspension and Weston McKennie recovered from a muscle problem, leaving Kenan Yildiz on the bench for the second time this season alongside Khephren Thuram.

See how it developed in the live blog.

Inter broke the deadlock with their first chance when Benjamin Pavard burst forward down the right side and retreated from the baseline to Marcus Thuram, who got to the ball before Danilo but instead hit his ankle while attempting a free throw. The referee pointed to the spot and Zielinski stepped up to convert, making his first Serie A appearance for the club.

The lead lasted barely five minutes when Juan Cabal floated a ball over the top, which McKennie deflected down and across for Dusan Vlahovic to side-foot the ball into the goal from five yards. Remarkably, it was the first goal the Serb ever scored at San Siro.

Juve completely turned the ball over as Francisco Conceicao dummied up Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the right and rolled to Weah to easily redirect the ball from point-blank range.

Conceicao also forced a save from Yann Sommer at the near post, but Inter equalized when Mkhitaryan made up for the earlier error by completing a give-and-go with Thuram, breaking into the penalty area and making his way into the bottom through a sea of legs corner drilled.

Incredibly, moments later, Pierre Kalulu missed his free-kick to kick Dumfries on the back of the leg, earning another penalty, which Zielinski converted into the bottom corner, despite grazing Di Gregorio's fingertips.

The score was nearly 3-3 at the first half's breaks as Sommer was left stranded when Weah's curler from the edge of the box struck into the top corner.

Dumfries should have made it 4-2 straight from the restart but hit a fresh-air shot when Di Gregorio parried Federico Dimarco's shot into his path. He made up for it when a corner was directed towards the back post, where he controlled the angled shot and placed it through Cabal's legs, leaving Di Gregorio lying.

Dimarco's shot on goal was smashed past the post by Di Gregorio, while the goalkeeper also saved Nicolò Barella's deflected volley under the crossbar.

Lautaro Martinez's header from a Dimarco corner flew past the far post, but just as Inter appeared to dominate, Juventus came back into the game.

McKennie's pass sent substitute Kenan Yildiz on the counterattack, Dumfries defended and placed a precise angled shot into the far bottom corner to make it 4-3.

Yildiz could have equalized in the 80th minute when he shot over the goal from twelve meters after a cross from Andrea Cambiaso.

It was just a warning because just moments later he scored with a very similar move, this time touching Conceicao's cross before firing the ball at the back post.

Inter 4-4 Juventus

Zielinski saves 15, 37 (I), Vlahovic 20 (J), Weah 26 (J), Mkhitaryan 35 (I), Dumfries 53 (I), Yildiz 71, 82 (J)
