Inter president Beppe Marotta treats Juventus with “the greatest respect, but also the ambition to achieve the maximum number of points” and warns both of them as contenders for the Scudetto.

The Nerazzurri are missing Hakan Calhanoglu, Carlos Augusto, Francesco Acerbi and Tajon Buchanan, so there was a big question mark surrounding the midfield playmaker.

Piotr Zielinski gets the nod in place of Kristjan Asllani, while Denzel Dumfries is the more attacking option on the right in place of Matteo Darmian.

Marotta is ready for the heated Inter-Juventus

“It is always an extraordinary atmosphere and I hope that this will be a positive advertisement for all Italian football around the world,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

“This is the Derby d'Italia, Juve are historical rivals, we treat them with the utmost respect, but also with the ambition to achieve the maximum number of points. “That is our spirit that goes into this game.”

All clubs seem eager to shake off the title of favorites in the Scudetto race this season. Does Marotta do the same?

“Juventus, Milan and Inter, not to mention Roma and Napoli, are always obliged to fight for victory. Only one person can win, but they have to be at least one of the favorites every time. Juve is not Borgorosso,” he added, referring to a team in a famous Italian comedy.

The Inter president has already said this season that UEFA and FIFA must work with clubs and players' associations to reduce the number of games.

The growing injury list only increased his call for this change.

“This is a season with more competitive games than ever before, just as last season ended with players completely exhausted. “Lautaro Martinez played the Copa America and came here for the opening game of the Serie A season without training,” affirmed Marotta.

“With so many games crammed together, it’s not easy to cope with all these fixtures, so we definitely need to find a solution. I think there were 100 injuries to players on international duty and that's a huge number.

“The pace of the sport has also increased, so an extraordinary amount of effort is required that cannot be maintained over so many games.”
