FOXBORO – A head injury makes it questionable whether New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye will return for Sunday's game against the New York Jets.

Maye was hit hard from behind by Jets safety Jamien Sherwood after the quarterback broke off an 18-yard scramble early in the second quarter against New York on Sunday afternoon. No flag was thrown on the play.

Maye took a sack two plays after that score, and his third-down pass to Kashon Boutte bounced off the receiver's hands, setting up a punt for New England. While New England's offense stood on the sideline, Maye made his way to the blue medical tent.

He eventually left the field to go to the Patriots' locker room, and the team listed his return as “questionable” due to a head injury. Veteran Jacoby Brissett was the quarterback on New England's next possession.

This is obviously terrible news for the Patriots, as Maye is one of the few bright spots on the 1-6 football team. The rookie turned heads in New England's offense and was the team's leading rusher on Sunday with 46 yards on three scrambles – including a 17-yard touchdown sprint.
