Jayden Daniels Injury Update: ESPN Insider Reveals Washington QB's Game Status vs. Chicago

Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is expected to play Sunday against the Chicago Bears, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

“The Commanders still need to see how Daniels feels during pregame warmups on Sunday before making a final decision on whether he can start,” Schefter wrote. “But as one team official told ESPN about Daniels, 'He's a tough guy.'”

Daniels' rib injury could certainly limit him, but Schefter reported that the QB was a limited participant in the game on Friday and completed the walkthrough on Saturday.

“He would want to play if he were missing his right leg,” a team official said of Schefter to ESPN.

ESPN's Courtney Cronin was on hand Sunday morning to provide insight during the event Sports center.

They took a crawl, walk, run approach this week with Jayden Daniels,” Cronin said. “They wanted to get him familiar with what he needed to do in the training room. That's why he was a DNP on both Wednesday and Thursday. And then when they got to the running part on Friday, I know one question came up: Is he at practice? Is he in the bubble? He took a little more time indoors before actually hitting the practice field because he did additional strength and conditioning work, particularly on his core and injured rib area.

“That was intentional, said the head coach Dan Quinn. He wanted to make sure he had the mobility needed to be successful on the big pitches. And it was more than just QB-specific work. They want to see how Daniels will be able to execute the entire game plan, which is why, the way he feels this morning, he'll try it here a little later, before the 4th: 25, kickoff. Now the question I've been asked a lot: Does he have to wear something specific around his ribs? He is already wearing a protective pad. It's pretty thick. It is small but thick and can protect the middle part. This is more about the mobility aspect and the fact that he can make all the throws.”

Since 2020, Daniels has been one of the main reasons the Commanders have a chance at the major league title. The former LSU Tigers quarterback has completed 75.3 percent of his passes for 1,404 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions in his first six games this year.

Daniels was also strong in the running game, recording 322 rushing yards and four touchdowns (not including the total from the Panthers game).
