After he was unable to sign a long-term contract last offseason, the San Francisco Giants gave Blake Snell a short contract with opt-out options. After a difficult start to the season due to injuries and poor performance, the reigning NL Cy Young winner has turned things around. Now that he's expected to hit free agency, he answers questions about his future and what role the Giants will play in it.

Snell's difficulty landing a long-term contract this offseason was shared with his Boras colleagues. However, like his teammate Matt Chapman, he has proven that he is worth a big deal despite a poor start to the season.

After a late start to the season and injuries, Snell's first six starts were difficult. He posted a 9.51 ERA over 23.2 innings. Since then, however, the left-hander has been out.

In his last 14 starts, the 31-year-old has posted a 1.23 ERA and 114 strikeouts in 80.1 innings, and Evne threw a no-hitter. Now the question is whether he will stay in San Francisco or not. From his recent comments, it looks like he hasn't closed that option at least yet.

This is a big offseason for Snell. He didn't get his big contract last season even after winning the Cy Young, and his season-ending performance showed he's still the same pitcher.

San Francisco has indicated multiple times that it is ready and willing to bring Snell back. Based on these comments, it sounds like the feeling was mutual. Now it's just a matter of the team outperforming the competition. Either way, Snell just wants to pitch.

“All I want to do is pitch. It sucks too just because I have to be smart, which is exactly where I'm at right now, but once I sign the contract it's just pitch, pitch, pitch. “I love it.” That’s all I really care about,” he continued.

The Snell sweepstakes will be one of the Giants' biggest offseason stories, as they recently let go stars Kevin Gausman and Carlos Rodon to make big-money deals.
