A Nigel Farage-inspired attempt to persuade Donald Trump to veto Keir Starmer's controversial Chagos Islands deal can be unveiled today.

The Independent has received legal advice on Starmer's controversial deal to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius to Mr Trump, requested after the chairman of Reform UK raised the issue directly with the former president's team.

The advice was drawn up by legal experts who worked with Mr Farage on the Brexit campaign.

Mr Farage says he was not directly involved in the legal advice, but his ties to Trump are believed to have played a crucial role in the initiative.

The goal of Farage and his allies is to persuade Trump to block the deal if he becomes president.

More Americans say Donald Trump is too old to be president — but not as many as when President Joe Biden faced similar concerns about his age over the summer.

A new poll from YouGov found that 44 percent said Trump, at 78, is too old to lead the executive branch. That number is higher than the 35 percent who said the same in a similar poll in February.

Likewise, the number of people who said he wasn't too old fell from 53 percent in February to 46 percent in October.

These numbers are compared to 81-year-old President Biden, who dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and supported Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. In a similar poll in February, 63 percent of respondents said Biden was too old to be president. That number rose to 70 percent in July.

According to the Harris-Walz campaign, Harris and her candidate will storm through battleground states for a series of rallies aimed at winning votes and “using the energy of these events to mobilize voters to the polls.” .

The Trump campaign has sent out the speaker list for the former president's Sunday rally at Madison Square Garden.

Doors open at 12 p.m. and the former president's speech is scheduled for around 5 p.m. ET.

With just over a week to go until Election Day, a historic gender divide is emerging that could determine whether Donald Trump or Kamala Harris wins the White House.

Recent national polls showed that women strongly supported the vice president over her Republican rival, 53 percent to 36 percent.

Embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams urged people to “turn down the temperature” ahead of Donald Trump's rally at Madison Square Gardens on Sunday night, dismissing suggestions that the former president is a “fascist” and should not be allowed to attend , to hold an event there the venue.

“I had such terms thrown at me by some political leaders in the city, using terms like Hitler and fascists,” he told reporters on Saturday.

Doors to Trump's rally at MSG are scheduled to open at noon Eastern Time, with the former president speaking around 5 p.m.
