Top performers from BYU win over UCF

BYU traveled to Orlando as underdogs and dominated UCF 37-24. Here are our top performers from the win.

Jake Retzlaff was dominant in the first half, giving BYU a 24-10 lead. Retzlaff was 12/19 for 200 yards and 2 total touchdowns in the first half. UCF's defense was disruptive against Iowa State, ending with a pick-six and another near-pick-six. Retzlaff read the field well, defended the football well and led the BYU offense down the field. Retzlaff is getting better and better.

LJ Martin takes BYU's offense to a whole different level on the field. Martin was great against UCF, finishing the game with 101 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. He has great vision, patience and balance.

UCF had a chance to win this game late in the first half. After BYU took a 17-0 lead, the Knights scored 10 unanswered points and the score was 17-10 with a minute left. Jake Retzlaff and Chase Roberts responded with a 62-yard touchdown to take a 24-10 lead into the locker room.

Isaiah Glasker has been one of the most consistent players on the BYU defense. Glasker made several highlight reel plays against UCF, including an interception and a sack. He also had five total tackles and one pass breakup.

True freshman Faletau Satuala got some meaningful reps in the second half. The former four-star recruit took advantage of his opportunities. On one play, Satuala was the only player in the open field while Ja'Varrius Johnson pushed forward trying to make a big play. Satuala made a beautiful tackle to keep Johnson behind the post. On the next play, Satuala Jacurri intercepted Brown and gave the ball back to the offensive line.

Hinckley Ropati is looking much better since being sidelined for a few weeks due to injury. Ropati was particularly effective in the second half as BYU tried to run out the clock. Ropati finished the game with 83 yards on 13 carries. Martin and Ropati were a great one-two against UCF.

Sam Vander Haar had the perfect pitch between his legs for a successful fake field goal. It might as well be a law that any BYU player who has a football between his legs is 100% on the list of best players.
