Hurricane Kristy weakened to a Category 1 storm on Saturday and is expected to become a post-tropical cyclone on Sunday and disorganize in the Pacific Ocean, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.

As of Saturday morning, the agency said the hurricane was more than 1,600 miles from the southern tip of Baja California. According to the NHC, Kristy is moving northwest at a speed of about 15 mph.

NHC said Hurricane Kristy had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph and stronger gusts.

Meteorologists continue to monitor the hurricane as it dissipates. The NHC said waves caused by Hurricane Kristy are affecting parts of the western coast of the Baja California peninsula. These impacts are expected to last through the weekend, the NHC said. These waves could “cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions,” the agency said.

There are no coast guards or warnings, the NHC said.
