A flash flood warning is in effect for parts of Oahu, Maui

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flash flood warning for Oahu until 9:30 a.m

At 6:40 a.m. radar indicated heavy rain over Oahu. Rain rates of up to 1.5 to 2.5 inches per hour were observed.

Periods of heavy rainfall over already saturated ground can quickly lead to runoff and flash flooding. Water levels in the streams are expected to continue to rise. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

Locations that will experience flash flooding include Honolulu, Ahuimanu, Kaneohe, Kahaluu, Waiahole, Kalihi, Maunawili, Moanalua, Aiea, Halawa, Waikane, Kaneohe Marine Base, Manoa, Kailua, Salt Lake, Pearl City, Palolo , Waimanalo, Kaaawa and Mililani.

A flash flood warning is also in effect for the island of Maui until 9:45 a.m

At 6:38 a.m. radar indicated heavy rain to the windward east of Maui. Rain fell at a rate of 2 to 3 inches per hour.

Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

Locations that will experience flash flooding include Nahiku, Keanae, Kipahulu, Hana, Kaupo, Huelo, Makawao, Haiku-Pauwela, Pauwela, Paia, Wailua, Haleakala National Park, Kailua and Hamoa.

The Hawaii News Now weather team has marked Saturday and Sunday as early alert weather days on the island of Hawaii.

An upper level disturbance and a deep area of ​​moisture could result in heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms over windward portions of Hawaii Island.

There is a risk of thunderstorms on all windward islands this morning. As the day gets later, the chance of thunderstorms decreases across most islands, with the exception of Maui and Hawaii Island, where isolated thunderstorms may increase through the afternoon.
