Evanilson's stoppage-time header earned Bournemouth a point away from Villa Park, while Aston Villa were frustrated by Cherries goalkeeper Mark Travers in a 1-1 draw.

Two wonderful managers from the Spanish Basque Country, Unai Emery and Andoni Iraola, met at Villa Park on Saturday and created a fulfilling spectacle.

Emery made a surprise change at half-time despite being much more dangerous in the first half, bringing on Ross Barkley for Amadou Onana. It paid off as Barkley scored with about 15 minutes left in the 90th minute.

That wouldn't be enough for Villa to avoid dropping a point after a midweek Champions League affair, as Iraola's double substitute James Tavernier and Evanilson combined to score six minutes into stoppage time.

Villa sit just ahead of Arsenal in third place on 18 points before the Gunners play Liverpool on Sunday. Villa are five points behind leaders Man City.

Bournemouth are in 10th place with 12 points and have tiebreakers ahead of Newcastle before the Magpies meet Chelsea on Sunday.

They came on together in the 66th minute and combined to earn the Cherries a point half a dozen minutes into stoppage time.

James Tavernier's free kick is cleared by the first man and the second is a leaping Evanilson who flicks his header past Emiliano Martinez!

The half-time change brings Villa the breakthrough.

Ollie Watkins is on the left and sends Ian Maatsen towards the touchline.

Maatsen's cross is deftly nodded towards Barkley, who acrobatically brings the ball over the line.

Andoni Iraola produces Enes Unal and Justin Kluivert.

Into battle? James Tavernier and Evanilson.

Travers again

Bournemouth don't think Pau Torres will shoot. They still don't. More time passes.

Pau deflects the ball from 25 meters and Travers does well to come to the right and parry it.

Now he has to fend off Watkins again in the ensuing corner… for another corner.

The super sub of the season arrives

Jhon Duran comes on for Morgan Rogers in the 57th minute.

Duran is Villa's top goalscorer but rarely makes the starting XI because of Ollie Watkins (and Rogers).

Villa came close twice

The second half started in Villa style and they almost opened the scoring from a corner kick.

Ross Barkley replaced Amadou Onana at the break as Villa wanted to pose more danger in their possession.

Mark Travers is the surprise star of the half with three saves (two of them quite good).

McGinn's goal was pushed off the board but it's really a game for both sides as Bournemouth had almost half the ball.

Ollie Watkins saves a ball on the touchline and the Cherries players are sure he is out of bounds.

Watkins finds McGinn, who once again demonstrates his precision with a brilliant finish.

Travers thrive early

This is due to a Kepa injury and he made two very big saves.

Positive mood in both directions

Villa had the first three shots, but Bournemouth appeared to be well-coached both with the ball – 40% early – and on the counterattack.

These are promising signs, but can the Cherries hang on and hope thVilla's midweek legs catch up with them?

No Kepa today but Mark Travers did well to stop a well-designed shot from Youri Tielemans.

Villa's injury problems have subsided at the perfect time with John McGinn, Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa all back to fitness, with McGinn and Konsa starting in the win over Bologna and Mings, a long-term absentee, on the bench. Villa's squad is incredibly strong and Ollie Watkins' absence for the Champions League game means he will be in the starting line-up against Bournemouth on Saturday. The only player unavailable is Jaden Philogene, who was sent off for two yellow-reds at Fulham last weekend and is serving a one-match ban. '

The Cherries have no injury problems and USMNT captain Tyler Adams is reinstated. Adams could come off the bench. Luis Sinisterra's injury status is questionable, but he is one of several in-form attackers.
