    Costco is recalling chicken products due to listeria contamination

    Costco is recalling additional food products containing meat due to possible listeria contamination, the company recently announced.

    The move is part of a recent, broader recall related to ready-to-eat chicken and other meats sold at grocery stores across the U.S., including Walmart, Publix, Target, Aldi and Trader Joe's.

    The Costco recall includes Rana Chicken Truffle Carbonara, Tagliatelle Grilled White Chicken & Portabello Mushroom Sauce, and Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon. Notification letters were sent to customers who purchased the products on October 11th and 22nd.

    The chicken products were sold from September to October 2024, while the salmon was sold between October 9 and October 13, according to the company.

    Which Costco products are being recalled?

    • Rana Chicken Truffle Carbonara
    • Tagliatelle, grilled white chicken and portabello mushroom sauce
    • Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon with lot number 8512801270.

    Costco also previously recalled these products:

    Anyone who purchased the products should not eat them and return them to the local Costco for a refund, the company wrote in its letter.

    Listeriosis or listeria poisoning symptoms

    Listeriosis, or listeria poisoning, is a food-borne bacterial infection most commonly caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. It is considered a serious condition and can be dangerous or life-threatening, especially for older adults, people with weak immune systems and pregnant people.

    Symptoms include:

    • Fever
    • Muscle pain
    • Headache
    • Stiff neck
    • confusion
    • Loss of balance
    • cramps
    • Diarrhea
    • Other gastrointestinal symptoms
    • Miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth and/or life-threatening infection of newborns
    • Death

    People in a higher risk category who experience flu-like symptoms within two months of consuming contaminated food should seek medical attention.

    Recall related to a major case involving meat producer BrucePac

    The chicken products included in the notice are related to a major recall involving precooked meat manufacturer BrucePac.

    The company recently released more information about products initially affected by the recall worth £11.8 million This was announced on October 9 by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). Routine testing revealed evidence of L. monocytogenes on ready-to-eat BrucePac poultry, which can cause listeriosis infection if consumed.

    The affected products were delivered to establishments and distributors across the country, including restaurants, schools and food facilities, and are included in various brands of salads, frozen meals and other packaged foods sold at various locations.

    What to do if you have a recalled product?

    Anyone who has purchased affected products should throw them away or return them to the point of sale. Retailers who stock the products are advised not to sell the recalled products and to either discard or return them.

    As of Friday, there have been no confirmed reports of side effects related to the recalls.

    Anyone who is concerned about an illness should contact their doctor or healthcare provider.
