Chloe Troast reacts to 'SNL' exit and explains why in Moving Club Cosmo speech

When 27-year-old Chloe Troast came along Saturday Night LiveWhen she joined the band last year, she turned heads on the traditional variety show with her impressive vocal range and breakout skit “Little Orphan Cassidy.” While Chloe ultimately didn't return SNLThe future is exceptionally bright for next season. And she knows it.

On October 24, Chloe took the stage at the Refinery Rooftop at Domino in Brooklyn to accept a 2024 Club Cosmo Award – an honor from Cosmopolitan, UTA Next Gen and ZCON highlighted the brands, creators and trends paving the way for future generations – and their speech moved the room.

“About a month ago I found out that I wasn't going back to my dream job Saturday Night Live. “It’s very important to me that Generation Z gets fired,” she said while accepting the Club Cosmo Award. “There aren’t many people in this world who can relate to you when you lose a job like that.” Saturday Night Live, except maybe Adam Sandler, Jenny Slate, Michaela Watkins, Joan Cusack, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Robert Downey Jr., Billy Crystal…but you definitely don't know their names. Still, I felt broken. And who better to call than my former locker room roommate (Molly Kearney) to get me out of bed and help me see the forest through the trees? They literally helped me get out of the city and I spent a month in nature. Touched grass. Gained some perspective. SNL was my dream, and now I have a lot of time to dream new dreams.

Chloe concluded with a story:

“There's a short story I heard from (the podcast) Poog… There's a story about a man whose horse got away and his neighbors took pity on the man's misfortune and he replied, 'Good luck, bad luck.' – who knows?” A week later his horse came back and took him with him another Horse from the wild. The neighbors were happy for the man and the man replied, “Good luck, bad luck – who knows?” The man's son tried to tame the horse. He fell down and broke his leg. The neighbors mourned the boy, but the man replied: “Good luck, bad luck – who knows?” A week later they were preparing a new war, and the son could not fight because of his injury. Neighbors said the man was lucky to keep his son out of harm's way. The man replied, “Good luck, bad luck – who knows?” Who knows, boys? Who knows what lies ahead for all of us? I love you all. Thank you.”

Chloe is earlier SNL Wardrobe roommate Molly Kearney introduced her to the stage and recalled how Kenan Thompson and Emma Stone's jaws dropped at Chloe's singing. “I find SNL “I just opened the door for other people to know who she was and is,” Molly said. (Chloe immediately returned the love when she got the mic, saying, “Molly is not only hilarious, smart and kind, but also a lifesaver.”)

“I want my audience to feel the joy I get from making things,” said Chloe Cosmo before the awards ceremony. “I used to do a lot of things that just ended up in the ether. Weird things that only my friends liked. But now there are a lot more people there. I hope they feel like an extension of my friends. I've needed some extra support lately and they've definitely been there for me.”

Chloe is one of 10 Club Cosmo honorees in the Creator category, alongside other Gen Z icons like Aaron Rose Philip, Avantika and Chi Ossé.
