Over 100 planes and a 2,000km journey to Iran

More than 100 aircraft were involved in Saturday's attack on Iran, including the state-of-the-art F-35.

Israel's preliminary attack on radar targets in Syria was aimed at “blinding” Iran's capabilities and quickly escalated into an offensive against Tehran and Karaj, Iran's capital and another strategic location.

The IDF confirmed that the operation focused exclusively on military targets and stayed away from nuclear and oil facilities to prevent further escalation of the conflict. The state remains on high alert as Israel anticipates possible retaliation, not just from Iran.

This large-scale attack involved over 100 aircraft, including F-35 “Adir” stealth fighters, covering approximately 2,000 kilometers. Foreign reports said the attacks were focused on Tehran and Karaj, with the IDF saying each wave of attacks exclusively targeted military sites, reducing further risks of conflict.

An operation of this scale likely began with initial waves of attacks on radar and air defense systems, clearing the way for subsequent attacks on military bases. Previously, a coordinated attack in Syria neutralized similar threats and prevented Iran from gaining insight into Israel's plans.

The use of heavy ammunition in long-range attacks such as these requires significant refueling capacity and the rescue unit 669 on high alert.

The IDF is now closely monitoring possible responses from Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Syria and Lebanon and is preparing for a range of possible retaliatory measures.

Management of the operation

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi remain stationed at Kirya Base in Tel Aviv. A senior Israeli official reported that the security cabinet approved the attack in a conference call last night.

“The IDF is fully prepared for both offensive and defensive maneuvers and is closely monitoring Iran and its proxies,” said IDF spokesman R.-Adm. Daniel Hagari. He confirmed that there are no changes to Home Front Command policies for now. “We continue to urge vigilance and adherence to Home Front Command instructions, with prompt updates as changes occur.”

The White House supported Israel's actions, saying: “Israel's precise strikes on Iranian military targets are consistent with its right to self-defense and to respond to the Iranian missile attack on October 1.” US officials confirmed that Israel had announced the timing a few hours ago had communicated before the operation.
