Trump supporters gather along West Bee Cave in hopes of catching a glimpse of the former president

Trump supporters came out Friday hoping to see Donald Trump on this visit to Austin.

In an election season full of twists and turns, a celebratory mood prevailed at this unofficial Trump rally along West Bee Cave Road, as supporters waved flags and held signs and passing motorists either honked in support or voiced their opposition to Trump.

“It's so wild, it's bizarre, very bizarre and it's also very intimidating, you know, being in a liberal city and coming from the country, it's a little intimidating,” said Trump supporter Annie Morgan. She drove from her home in Clifton to Austin for the event. “Well, I feel comfortable here. That's great, right? I mean, there are a lot of them, so this is the way to go. Oh, everyone’s happy.”

Trump supporters gathered even though there was no guarantee Trump would drive past them on his way to record a podcast with Joe Rogan.

“I support him because I feel like the missing values are coming back for my grandchildren,” said Debbie Ayala, wearing a rhinestone-studded hat showing her support and oversized sunglasses.

In the end, Trump wasn't spotted and we're told that Joe Rogan instead opted to record the podcast at the airport so Trump could fly on to his next stop, Michigan. Although the followers along West Bee Cave were disappointed, they did not regret coming.

“It's nice to see so many of us out here hiding from such vile people on the other side. They do, and we should all be out here. We have the support we believe in and it's nice to see the support of people out here who share the same values,” Westlake resident Christie Oates said.

Early voting is underway and continues through next Friday, November 1st, and Election Day is November 5th.
