Anna Kendrick opened up about her”abusive”Ex-boyfriend and how her therapist often took his side during that time Couples therapy. She told Alex on the podcast: “I had just come out of a relationship that was very similar to the film.

“I didn’t want anyone to tell me not to do it. I didn’t want to be talked out of it.”

In the psychological thriller 2022 Anna plays Alice, who is in a psychologically abusive relationship with her boyfriend Simon (Charlie Carrick).

In the film, after a vacation with friends, Anna decides to reevaluate her relationship with Simon and tries to break her codependency.

At one point, Anna recalled: “It didn't follow the traditional pattern, which is another reason I had a really hard time identifying and naming it abusive.”

“So I thought it had to be me. If one of us is crazy, it has to be me.”

The 39-year-old actress reportedly said she had “completely turned her life upside down and was trying to sort things out with herself.”

She further admitted that couples therapy was unsuccessful, explaining, “It didn't help that for a long time, I think, our couples' therapist just bought his stuff.”

Anna explained: “I always felt like in couples therapy I was trying to stay so calm because I thought, damn it, in these sessions he's so able to stay kind of calm, in a way , which he otherwise cannot manage, we are outside of therapy.”

“I just started crying and he screamed in my face, 'You're terrorizing me.' But it was really the place of a person who believed he existed terrorized.”

Later in the episode, Kendrick admitted, “I will never commit to a man. That means we don't even kiss.

“We’re not even going to have a real conversation — unless you’re in therapy or have been in therapy.”

While Anna didn't mention who her ex was in the interview, it didn't take long for people to speculate about his identity.

“I really started to question if I had a mental health problem, and yeah, I kind of dismantled my life and just started going to therapy and going to Al-Anon for a year.”

Al-Anon is an international aid organization for people affected by someone else's illness alcoholism.

She continued: “When another person is so certain that you're crazy, it's actually really hard not to believe someone because I think there's something about another person's certainty that makes you think that way “Well, I guess I'm not.” 100 sure, so it must be me.”
