    The 2024 Halloween weather forecast for Indiana predicts rain. What we know

    Indianapolis had a cold, snowy Halloween in 2023 and it could be wet this year.

    As of Friday, the National Weather Service's latest forecast for central Indiana calls for a 70% chance of precipitation for Thursday, Oct. 31, and possible showers during trick-or-treating time. Admittedly, that Is the Midwest; The weather has a mind of its own and could surprise us.

    Here's what local meteorologists say Hoosiers can likely expect on Halloween. In short, it will be a bit of a mixed bag.

    Central Indiana could see record temperatures, followed by a Halloween cold front

    This Halloween won't just be trick-or-treating at Hoosiers' doorsteps. Meteorologists predict a cold front will arrive in central Indiana by October 31st. That's in stark contrast to the near-record high temperatures the area could see through Thursday, according to the NWS.

    According to a social media post from NWS Indianapolis, forecasters are predicting record temperatures of over 80 degrees for Tuesday and Wednesday. Wind gusts could also reach speeds of 40 miles per hour. Cooling conditions and the possibility of showers are then expected by Thursday.

    “I don't think it's a significant threat of rain, but the way it looks now, there's a chance of some showers Thursday night during trick-or-treating,” said Mike Ryan, an NWS meteorologist in Indianapolis.

    On the positive side, Ryan said central Indiana should see nighttime temperatures in the 60s on Thursday. That's much warmer than last year's Halloween lows, when temperatures dropped into the 20s and snow began to fall.

    “Next Thursday should be a lot more comfortable for those traveling,” Ryan said. “It certainly looks like it wouldn’t hurt to have an umbrella on hand. Of course we can refine the forecast in the coming days and hopefully see a few dry hours, maybe help between 5pm and 8pm.”

    Local NWS meteorologists reported Tuesday that Hoosiers living in central Indiana can expect the following weather conditions this week.

    ⛈️ Friday: Showers and thunderstorms are possible before 11:00 a.m., then showers are possible between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 70. South wind 7 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. The chance of precipitation is 40%.

    ☁️ Friday evening: Mostly cloudy, becoming mostly clear, with lows around 45 degrees. North wind 6 to 9 mph.

    ☀️ Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 62. North wind 6 to 8 mph.

    ☁️ Saturday evening: Increasing clouds, low around 37. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming calmer after midnight.

    ☀️ Sunday: Sunny, with a high of around 62°C. Calm winds blowing southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.

    🌙 Sunday evening: Clear, with a low around 38. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph.

    ☀️ Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. South wind 5 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.

    ☁️ Monday evening: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. South wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

    ☀️ Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Southwest wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph.

    ☁️ Tuesday evening: Partly cloudy, with a low around 63. South wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph.

    ☀️ Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81.

    🌧️ Wednesday evening: A 30 percent chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 63.

    🌧️ Thursday, Halloween 🎃: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

    What AccuWeather predicts for central Indiana on Halloween

    AccuWeather predicts Indianapolis will see highs around 66 degrees and lows around 49 degrees on Thursday, Oct. 31, according to the extended forecast. The chance of rain and possible thunderstorms is 35% with wind speeds of 23 km/h from the southwest.

    For Thursday evening, AccuWeather forecasts that showers could stay away, with a 21% chance of precipitation.

    The Weather Channel forecast for October 31, 2024 for Indianapolis

    The Weather Channel gives Indianapolis a slightly wetter outlook. Their monthly forecast predicts Halloween temperatures for Thursday, Oct. 31, in the Indy metro area will have highs of 71 degrees and lows of around 51 degrees. They are predicting a 70 percent chance of precipitation totaling about a quarter of an inch.

    According to Weather.com, Indianapolis will see cloudy skies and occasional showers on Halloween night, with a 60% chance of precipitation.

    Historical records indicate that things will tend to cool down by Halloween in November.

    Indiana's 2023 Halloween weather was snowy

    Halloween weather in 2023 played a cold trick on Indianapolis. At some point it started to snow. Central Indiana experienced a high of 41 degrees this year with a record monthly low of 25 degrees, according to reports from NWS in Indianapolis.

    According to the NWS, the average temperature on October 31 in Indianapolis is 50 degrees, with lows around 40 degrees.
