Showers and thunderstorms this afternoon/evening; A pleasant autumn weekend is ahead

Isolated thunderstorms will continue to develop this evening and move across much of our region. Rain will move out of the region from west to east, with the majority of this shower and thunderstorm activity occurring east of I-35 around 8:00 or 9:00 p.m. Although there may be thunderstorms and lightning, the risk of severe weather is still very low.

Once the front passes, dry and pleasant weather will set in and continue throughout the weekend. Friday and Saturday will be mostly sunny, with highs in the 50s. Sunday will be sunny and warmer with high temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. Our temperature roller coaster continues next week as temperatures climb into the high 70s Monday and Tuesday and fall back into the 50s mid to late in the week. Our weather pattern will become slightly more active next week, with isolated showers possible mid to late week. The new drought monitor was released this morning and is expected to capture moderate to severe drought across much of Minnesota and Iowa. While I don't think we'll see drought-breaking rain any time soon, every little bit definitely helps.
