There was little doubt who deserved victory on Wednesday evening as Barcelona beat Bayern Munich 4-1 and left Montjuic euphoric. However, the first half hour of the tie probably went more in Bayern Munich's favor, and Robert Lewandowski's goal helped turn things back in their favor against his former club.

The only moment of controversy Bayern fans might point to was a possible foul by Fermin Lopez on defender Kim Min-Jae in the lead-up to the goal. His push caused the South Korean defender to narrowly miss the ball in the air and Fermin shot into the goal. It was a decision that was reviewed by VAR, but neither the referee nor the video assistant judge saw it as sufficient to award a foul.

Lopez was asked about it after the game.

“Well, I think it's very big to knock over,” Fermin laughed to Movistar+.

“But well, I was trying to gain position, I pushed him from behind a little bit, and it helped me get a toe on to get him, Robert.” The truth is, it was a game , where everything happened, and I think we deserved to win.”

However, after an hour, Barcelona appeared to be well on top with a 4-1 lead and had all four of their shots on target during the game, although they certainly had chances for more.

“Maybe they had a moment of superiority after the first goal and created a lot of chances against us, but after that we controlled the game well, we took advantage of the chances we had and the whole team played a great game,” he said, noting that Bayern required “a lot of concentration throughout the entire game.”

The Blaugrana will now look to improve on their poor performance against Real Madrid, who have won all four of their last meetings. Lopez picked up an assist on his return to the starting XI after a month out. It was the 21-year-old's first start for Barcelona this season after returning late from the Paris Olympics and it will be interesting to see if Flick uses him again at the Santiago Bernabeu or brings Dani Olmo back into the lineup.
