Instead of asking how the employee was doing, the manager replied, “Keep me updated on when you expect to be here.” A day later, after receiving no response, the manager sent another message saying it said: “It's understandable why you're late, but whatever prevents you from being at work, other than a death in the family, is unexcused in any company.”
