$478 million Powerball jackpot winning ticket sold in Georgia: drawing, numbers

Feeling peachy!

A lucky Powerball player in Georgia won an estimated $478 million prize Wednesday night, breaking the state's nearly decade-long drought of hitting the lottery's jackpot.

The winning numbers were 2, 15, 27, 29, 39 and the red Powerball 20.

After all six numbers are matched, the unknown winner can take home the estimated prize of $478 million, paid out over 29 years, or the one-time lump sum of an estimated $230.6 million.

It takes an astronomical odds of 1 in 292,201,338 to win the Powerball grand prize.

Two ticket holders in Pennsylvania and Texas matched all five white balls and won $1 million.

Wednesday night's win ended a two-month losing streak for Powerball jackpot winners. A California lottery player won the $44.3 million jackpot on August 19, 2024.

In the last 14 years, four jackpot winning tickets have been sold in the Peach State.

Couple William and Heather ten Broeke won the $246 million prize on September 17, 2016, but settled for the cash value of $165,613,510.93.

According to WSB2, the two were shopping at a grocery store when Heather ten Broeke reminded her husband to buy a lottery ticket for the drawing.

After winning, they shared that they planned to spend the fortune on travel, family, investments and a charitable donation.

A $77.1 million ticket sold in June 2011 went unclaimed.

According to the state's lottery site, lottery players in Georgia typically have 180 days to claim their winnings.

An unknown New Jersey player who bought a $1.13 billion Mega Millions ticket in March has yet to secure the prize as he has just over five months left to claim the prize to demand.
