'The View': Billy Crystal Reveals Princess Diana's Reaction to Meg Ryan's Fake Orgasm in 'Harry and Sally'

Princess Diana really enjoyed Meg Ryan's fake orgasm When Harry Met Sally according to star Billy Crystal.

To mark the romantic comedy's 35th anniversary, Crystal recalled attending the London premiere with Ryan and Princess Diana in this morning's episode The view.

“(Princess Diana) was incredible,” Crystal told co-hosts, noting that she sat between him and Ryan for the film. “We sit together on the balcony in the theater. And then trumpets sound as we enter, which happens in every movie theater.”

According to Crystal, things got a little awkward in the theater when Ryan's infamous deli scene happened.

“The entire audience among us is now looking back to see how the princess will react when Meg fakes the orgasm,” he said, referring to the scene in which Ryan's Sally teaches Crystal's Harry how to sit down like a woman can fake a climax in the middle of a crowded deli.

Luckily, Princess Diana had a sense of humor. There's a reason she was known as the “People's Princess” after all!

“She starts laughing. A big laugh,” Crystal recalled. “It's the kind of laugh that if we were together I would never see her again. She’s beautiful, but the laughter!”

He concluded: “It was a spectacular evening and it was so great to meet her.”

Not everyone loves the iconic scene as much as Princess Diana. Ryan previously spoke about the impact it had on her children Daisy True Ryan and Jack Quaid.

“My son just called me this morning and he's staying in a hotel in New York that's right across the street from Katz's Deli,” Ryan said interview magazine in September 2023. “They said, 'Mom, this is a very special embarrassment.'”

Quaid had also told his mother, “You know you can go into this deli and there's an arrow pointing to the table where you shot that scene.”

The view airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
