The Memphis Grizzlies star is out of the NBA season opener

The Memphis Grizzlies had brutal luck with injuries last season. Without star point guard Ja Morant for all but nine games, the Grizzlies also lost several other key players due to extended absences due to injuries.

Unfortunately, this offseason didn't go much better for the Grizzlies. Rising young rotation players GG Jackson and Vince Williams Jr. both suffered offseason injuries that will sideline them early in the season. In addition to those two injuries, sharpshooter Luke Kennard is dealing with a foot issue that puts his status in question.

While Morant appears to be on track to start the season healthy after suffering a minor ankle injury in preseason, his star teammate Jaren Jackson Jr. will miss the season opener.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins provided an injury update and said Jackson will be out for Wednesday's game against the Utah Jazz.

Via Michael Wallace of Grind City Media: “Jenkins says Jaren Jackson Jr. (hamstring) will sit out the season opener on Wednesday and has a few more days to focus on conditioning and 5-on-5 work to prepare. “The return for the home opener on Saturday seems more promising than the first trip after two games.”

While it doesn't seem like this will be a long-term absence for Jackson, it's very unfortunate for the Grizzlies that they won't have the star forward available to start the regular season.

The Grizzlies' final injury report won't be released until Tuesday, but Jackson has already been ruled out.
