Former president gathers in Tempe

Former President Donald Trump will rally supporters in Tempe on Thursday, his campaign announced Tuesday.

The rally will be Trump's fifth visit to Arizona this year and his second Arizona in the past two weeks. The Republican presidential candidate will speak at Arizona State University's Mullett Arena on Thursday at 2 p.m.

In a statement announcing his visit, the Trump campaign praised Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris' economic proposals. Polls show the former president is gaining support among young black and Latino men who are worried about the economy in Arizona and battleground states that will decide the presidential election.

“Kamalanomics has put the American dream of homeownership out of reach for young Americans and families across Arizona,” the Trump campaign said. “Arizona voters know that only a return to President Trump’s successful economic policies will restore the American dream, defeat inflation, lower mortgage rates and make home purchases more affordable.”

Trump will be in the state less than two weeks before Election Day on November 5th. The latest polls show Trump and Harris in a close race, giving the Republican candidate a slight lead. Trump lost Arizona in the 2020 election by the narrowest margin of any state.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was in Tempe last month, where he performed at the college bar Snakes & Lattes.

Trump's most recent march through Arizona was a rally in Prescott Valley. His running mate, JD Vance, was scheduled to campaign in Peoria and Tucson on Tuesday, and Donald Trump Jr. will campaign for his father in Queen Creek on Wednesday evening.
