When long-standing Portland Brew café 12 South closed in late August, community members wondered what would take its place. They received their answer on Wednesday morning.

Country superstar Luke Bryan and men's clothing company Jockey announced they will jointly open a retail store called Coopers 12South in the former cafe. The store's name is in honor of jockey founder Samuel Cooper.

Coopers 12South is scheduled to open in late November.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join my friends at Jockey in opening this store here in Music City on 12South,” Bryan, who lives in Columbia, Tennessee, said in a statement. “Coopers 12South will be a great experience for everyone who walks through our doors while maintaining an emphasis on being a good neighbor to the people up and down this street. What an honor to not only shine a light on the natural world that I love to sing and live about every day, but also to provide a place for many others to share their visions and passions.”

Coopers will combine Bryan's love of the outdoors with a tribute to Nashville music, selling everything from Bryan's collection of jockey flannel suits and vests to locally made artisan goods and unique clothing from Nashville designers.

The shop will also be filled with immersive LED walls and art installations.

“We are thrilled to partner with Luke and bring the 12South community an immersive, lifestyle-focused store that delivers a distinctive experience for our guests,” said Mark Fedyk, president and COO of Jockey, in a statement. “The store’s offerings and atmosphere will be tailored to and embody the 12South neighborhood and its community. This will be a unique and one-of-a-kind store that “fits” the neighborhood. Everything about Coopers 12South is designed in a thoughtful way that blends into the community and has a local feel.”

Earlier this year, Jockey opened an office at Fifth + Broadway in downtown Nashville, and Fedyk said the company is looking forward to deepening its relationships within the city's business community.

It's unclear how much the building at 2605 12th Ave.
