The NBA legend boasts that the Lakers got a “bad boy” in the recent 2024 NBA draft

The NBA offseason finally ended on Tuesday and the Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Minnesota Timberwolves on opening night. The Lakers won 110-103 and the night was a huge success for Los Angeles, which started the season with a lot of questions.

The action of the season opener was dominated by Anthony Davis' 36-point double-double, Rui Hachimura's 18 points coupled with a stifling defense and, of course, LeBron and Bronny James sharing the court for the first time – they were only the second father and Son who ever played in American sports on the same team.

Lost on the roster was Lakers rookie Dalton Knecht, who quietly made his NBA debut, scoring five points in 16 minutes and making his first career three-pointer.

Knecht was the only Lakers player to finish the season with a positive plus/minus rating of +7. After scoring 35 points in the preseason, it became clear that he would play a significant role in the Lakers' offense.

During TNT's opening coverage, NBA legend Charles Barkley made it clear what he thinks of the rookie.

“These NBA general managers have no idea what they’re doing,” Barkley said Tuesday night. “Letting the Lakers get Dalton Knecht was one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. That's a bad boy. Dalton Knecht: Remember this name!”

Considering Knecht plays in one of the biggest markets alongside the league's biggest star, it's unlikely anyone will forget his name, but the 16 teams that traded up on him in the 2024 NBA Draft might do so to fans rather do.
